Section 01 · Walkthrough
Five steps to a searchable document.
Adding a document is two things: choosing the file, and choosing the container it lands in. A container is a knowledge base for one team or topic, and people only see what is in the container they search.
01Open the Ingestion page
Find the Ingestion page inside the Knowledge Base.
- Open the Knowledge Base.
- In the left rail, click Ingestion (the upload arrow).
- You will see a drop area on the left and a status panel on the right.
NoteIngestion is where Charlo reads a document, breaks it into searchable pieces, and adds it to a container.

02Add your document
Drag a file in, or click to browse your computer.
- Drag a file onto the drop area, or click it to browse your computer.
- Charlo accepts PDF, DOCX, TXT, CSV, images and more.
- The file appears in the Staged files list, ready to send.
TipYou can add several files at once. Use Add more to keep stacking them, or the small cross to remove one.

Drag a file in, or click to browse.
03Choose the correct container
Pick the container this document belongs in.
- At the top, open the Container dropdown.
- Pick the container this document belongs in, for the team or topic that should find it.
- Check your choice before moving on. This is the one step worth getting right.
NoteThe dropdown starts on None. If you leave it there the document is uploaded but lands in no container, so nobody can search it. Always pick a real container.
FIG 03
Pick the right container. Never leave it on None.
04Start the upload
Send the files off to be read and indexed.
- Click Upload (it shows how many files you are sending).
- Charlo moves each file into Ingesting while it reads and indexes it.
- Larger documents take a little longer. You can keep working while it runs.
TipYou can keep working elsewhere in Charlo while the upload runs in the background.
FIG 04
Start the upload once the container is set.
05Confirm it is ready
Check the file lands in Ingested and reads Ready to use.
- When it finishes, the file moves to Ingested and shows Ready to use.
- It is now searchable, but only inside the container you chose.
- If a file lands under Issues, it failed. Open that panel to see why, then try again.
TipGo to the Query view, select that same container, and ask a question your document should answer. If it shows up in the sources, you are done.
FIG 05
Ingested and ready to use in that container.
